Abstract: Nuclear science and technology have an important bearing on the future and sustainable development of our society. The study of health physics is a comprehensive subject that deals with the safe application of nuclear radiation in all areas. An overview is presented of its history and development, and the special role it plays in many interdisciplinary fields. It is to be hoped that the subject of health physics will be better known in the future.
